Southern Maryland Kennels was established in November 1987 and we are located in Southern Maryland. Our breeding program offers quality field and show Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We have been doing field work and hunting with our Chesapeakes for 20 years and occasionally showing them for the past 8 years. We sell our puppies to hunting, hunt test, licensed field trial, show, obedience, and pet homes. Some of our Southern MD. Chesapeake's are successfully working in the police field around the US and Bermuda as narcotic, bomb, search & rescue, and cadaver dogs. All of our puppies are temperament-tested before they leave.

We ship puppies out of Baltimore, Maryland (BWI Airport). We have picked puppies and shipped them all over the US, Russia, Germany, Bermuda, and other areas to new owners, sight unseen and, to date, everyone has been happy with their new additions. We feel very confident in choosing puppies for field, show, pet quality, etc.

Our mission is to breed exceptional Chesapeake's which have correct type, sound breed quality, and maximum retrieving ability with good temperaments. Over the years we feel that we have been very successful at breeding a "Dual-purpose Chesapeake" who is confident in the show ring as well as effective in the field and great in the house.

All of our breeding stock have hip and eye clearances before breeding. We carefully study the pedigrees of all dogs and know the backgrounds before breeding. We take our breeding program very seriously; we have been very successful at continuing to breed the "Dual-purpose Chesapeake".
